August 2020: this month’s Sunday readings are filled with images of abundance and blessings, and of the call of Christ to place our faith and trust in God. These messages of hope and call in the midst of this most challenging year are striking and all the more poignant in light of the circumstances in which our people will hear the Word of God at this time. Please continue to pray for our parish community that we find hope, consolation, strength, peace and healing through our Lord Jesus Christ.
. This weekend’s gospel, especially as it is paired with the First Reading from Isaiah, speaks to God’s offer of abundant grace. We hear in today’s Second Reading from Romans how nothing can separate us from this love of God, poured out in Jesus Christ. The disciples were witnesses to this great love in Jesus and so willingly gave Him the five loaves and two fish, trusting that He would know what to do with their small offering.
